Frequently Asked Questions

  • The first session offers time to explore what has been most concerning or difficult for you. It is a space for listening and understanding, where we begin to connect with what is really happening beneath the surface and focus on what matters most to you.

  • The first session is 90 minutes, giving us time to understand what’s brought you here, explore what’s happening beneath the surface, and set a clear direction for our work together.
After that, sessions are 50 minutes.
Each session moves at a steady, focused pace, enough space to engage with what’s emotionally significant without feeling rushed. Over time, this creates the momentum and insight needed for real, lasting change.

  • While many therapies focus on managing thoughts or behaviour, my approach aims to get to the emotional roots of distress, the part of us that drives anxiety, depression, and relationship struggles. By working directly with emotion in a focused way, people often experience meaningful and lasting relief rather than temporary coping.

  • That’s completely okay. Most people start therapy unsure of what they feel or how to express it. Together, we slow things down and notice what’s happening as you talk; Tension, impulses, or moments you pull away from. This process helps emotions become clearer and safer to experience.

  • Sometimes therapy involves facing emotions that have been avoided for a long time, and that can feel powerful. But we always move at a pace that keeps things manageable and grounded. My role is to support you through that process, not to push beyond what you can tolerate.

  • It depends on your goals and what’s driving the problem. Some people notice significant change within a few sessions, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns. The focus is always on making sure progress feels real and relevant to you.

  • If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you’re eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of $95.65 per session.
This rebate can be applied to up to 10 sessions within a calendar year.

Your GP will discuss your needs and provide a referral if appropriate. You can then book an appointment and simply bring your referral and Medicare card to your first session; the rebate can be processed electronically on the day.

  • Yes. If you have psychology cover included in your private health insurance policy, you may be able to claim a rebate for your sessions.
Rebates and eligibility vary between providers and levels of cover, so it’s best to check directly with your insurer for the specific rebate amount available to you.

Please note that you can’t claim both Medicare and private health for the same session, but you’re welcome to use private health if you’re not claiming under a Mental Health Care Plan.

  • Yes. Online sessions are available via Zoom for clients who prefer the comfort and privacy of their own space, or who live outside the Gold Coast area.
Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, and many clients find it easier to fit into their routines. You’ll receive a secure Zoom link before each session — simply click to join at your scheduled time.

  • No, you don’t need a referral to see me — you’re welcome to book an appointment at any time.

However, if you obtain a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or psychiatrist, you’ll be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $95 per session, for up to 10 sessions within a calendar year.

Many people choose to begin with a referral so they can access this rebate, but it’s not required.

  • You can request a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Most GPs provide an initial referral for six sessions, after which you can return for a review and, if appropriate, receive a referral for four additional sessions (up to a total of ten rebated sessions per calendar year).

Referrals can also be provided by a psychiatrist. If you’re unsure how to start the process, simply let your GP know you’d like to access psychological support under a Mental Health Care Plan.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least one full business day’s notice to avoid a cancellation fee.
Cancellations made with less than one business day’s notice may incur the full session fee, as that time is set aside specifically for you.

Please note that Medicare rebates can’t be applied to cancelled or missed sessions.

If you have further questions, you are welcome to reach out or take the next step when you feel ready.
